Creamed Wax Beans
Nothing says summer quite like fresh wax beans from the garden. Around our house, this recipe has been a favorite alongside mashed potatoes and hamburger steaks. It's simple, creamy, and one of those comforting meals that brings everyone to the table.

- 2 lbs cooked wax beans
- 4 Tbsp butter
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sugar
- Pinch of white pepper
- 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
- 2 oz cream cheese
- Right before serving: 1 Tbsp butter
Directions
- Melt the butter in a saucepan.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
- Stir in the heavy cream , salt, black pepper, sugar, white pepper, and cream cheese.
- Place the cooked wax beans in your slow cooker and pour the cream sauce over them. Stir gently to coat.
- Cook on LOW for 30–60 minutes, just until everything is hot.
- Switch to WARM until supper.
- Right before serving, stir in 1 tablespoon butter for an extra silky finish.
Farmhouse Tip
Fresh garden wax beans make all the difference. This recipe pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes, hamburger steaks, and homemade dinner rolls.
